A day at Casela Nature Park, Mauritius

I think, a place like Casela Nature Park, needs an entire page to itself. My husband has an undying love for Zoo but Casela Nature Park is much more than a zoo.

We opted for the Safari package which includes, the entrance fee, a drive through and a Big Cat interaction. We chose the majestic lions to interact with, which frankly excited me but also frightened me.

Bus Safari at Casela Nature Park

On entering the park, we quickly made our way towards the bus stop from where we took the Bus Safari. They have kept food buckets for the animals right at the side of the bus trail so that all of us at-least see some animals unlike some other Safaris’ I have been to.

Dirt Biking among animals

On reaching the Big Cats enclosures, all my fears went away. They were letting a large group of people to enter the cages, all at a time, where 3-4 guards were already present inside to pacify the cats. They let individual persons to touch and pat the Lions while posing in front of the cameras. Then they let couples touch, pat and take photos with Lions.

Encounter with Big Cats!

There are some rules to follow inside:

  1. Never show your back to Lions.

  2. Always wear covered shoes and long pants.

  3. To not suddenly make any noise.

  4. To never leave the sticks given to us on entering the enclosure. [Sticks represent respect to the Lions]

Big Cats interaction is the main attraction of this park. Apart from this, they have Walking with Lions and Drive-Thru in a secured vehicle, to visit the lions and tigers in their natural habitat.

The entrance ticket gives access to several activities including exotic birds, the Walk-Thru Aviary, the Avalanche Mine with two dry slides – the Tubby Slide and the Tubby Jump, the Petting Farm, the Safari to see zebras, ostriches, rhinos, African impalas and more, as well as the observation of giraffes, big cats, pygmy hippos and camels.

It is a park for the adventure lovers and also for the peaceful kind. Families, honeymooners, and adventure seekers – all will be happy visiting this land of good times. Read my entire experience in Mauritius here. Cheers!
