A day at Casela Nature Park, Mauritius

Bus Safari at Casela Nature Park
A quick photo before boarding the bus safari.

On entering the park, we quickly made our way towards the bus stop from where we took the Bus Safari. They have kept food buckets for feeding the animals near the bus and dirt biking trails still maintaining certain distances do that the animals don’t get disturbed while feeding.

Big Cats Interaction

We chose the majestic lions to interact with, which frankly excited me as well as frightened me. But on reaching the Big Cats enclosures, all of my fears went away.

They were letting a group of people enter the cages at a time, where 3-4 guards were present inside to pacify the cats and keep us safe. They let individual persons to touch and pat the Lions while posing for the cameras. Afterward, they let couples take photos while gently touch the back of the Lions.

The Lions in no way looked drugged inside the cage but being born in the captivity, they have been taught to bond with their caregivers and don’t flinch by seeing outsiders.

Our encounter with Big Cats!

Here are some rules to follow inside the Big Cat’s cages:

  1. Never show your back to Lions.
  2. Always wear covered shoes and long pants.
  3. To not suddenly make any noise.
  4. To never leave the sticks given to us on entering the enclosure. [Sticks represent respect to the Lions]

Big Cats interaction is the main attraction of this park. Apart from this, they have Walking with Lions and Drive-Thru in a secured vehicle, to visit the lions and tigers in their natural habitat.

The entrance ticket gives access to several activities including exotic birds, the Walk-Thru Aviary, the Avalanche Mine with two dry slides – the Tubby Slide and the Tubby Jump, the Petting Farm, the Safari to see zebras, ostriches, rhinos, African impalas and more, as well as the observation of giraffes, big cats, pygmy hippos and camels.
